If you are planning a trip to Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur, then don’t forget to add the day trip to Batu Caves and Genting Highlands to your itinerary. In fact, without this day trip, your tour will feel incomplete. Last month, on my second day in Kuala Lumpur, I embarked on this tour. I booked it online for approximately 145 Ringgit, so in this blog, I’ll share my experience about this day trip, from start to end.

Our journey starts at 9 AM, starting from the meeting point, which is Berjaya Square Mall, near Bukit Bintang, where the bus and the guide arrived to pick us up. We are a group of 18-20 people, and we have a friendly guide who shared useful and relevant information not only about the places we are going to visit but about Malaysia as well.

Our first stop was the iconic Batu Caves, which is located just a 30-minute drive from the city center. This place is basically a limestone hill consisting of caves and cave temples. It is considered the most popular shrine outside India, which is dedicated to Lord Murugan. The site is famous for its large golden-colored statue of Lord Murugan, which stands at 42.7 meters high. The caves were actually discovered in 1859 and later became a place of worship. There are actually three main caves, and Temple Cave is the largest one, which is accessed by climbing 272 colorful steps. The place also hosts several other small shrines.
This place is not just a place of worship but attracts millions of tourists annually from all over the world. The entry is free, and we were given almost 60 minutes here to explore the area.

After getting back from there, we headed towards the next stop, which was Genting Highland. Genting Highlands was established in 1965 by Lim Goh Tong, who was a Chinese businessman, and since then this place has been one of the most popular places in Malaysia, which is also known as the “City of Entertainment.” This place is on the Titiwangsa Mountains, which offers cool weather, beautiful views, and a variety of entertainment options. The journey took almost 60 to 70 minutes to reach there, and as we reached there, the weather became cooler, as clouds added to the scenic beauty.

Here we were provided with cable car tickets, which were included in the package. The standard ticket price for the cable car is 10 ringgit per person for a way trip, but it was free for us as it was included in the booking. The ride was an adventure in itself, it was smooth and offered stunning views of the beautiful mountains. On the way, we also stopped at Chin Swee Caves Temple, a beautiful Chinese temple surrounded by beautiful landscapes. The temple, with its beautiful structure and statues, is a worthy place to take a stop.

Then we reached the top of Genting Highlands, where we had several hours to explore. Genting Highlands is basically famous for its indoor theme park, shopping malls like SkyAvenue, plenty of dining options, and its world-famous casino, which is the only legal land-based casino in Malaysia. The Theme park include Skytropolis Funland, which offers thrilling rides for all ages, and popular Genting SkyWorlds, an outdoor park. This entire area is full of entertainment, nature, and modern facilities, we stayed there for almost 2 and a half hours.

Before heading back, we also visited Genting Premium Outlets, a shopper’s paradise with all the world-famous luxury brands. Whether you are after a new pair of shoes, watches, or just window shopping, it a great place to end the day.

Then we boarded back to the bus, where our bus was waiting to take us back to the city. This trip wrapped around 5 PM, and yes, no food was included in the package, which we ate by ourselves, but we surely enjoyed a full day of history, nature, adventure, and shopping.

To conclude, I must say this trip offers a perfect balance of cultural exploration, history, and entertainment. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or someone who wants to explore something unique, this excursion has something for everyone. I definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Kuala Lumpur.
