Last month, when I was planning my trip to Thailand, I faced the challenging task of selecting the cities to visit alongside Bangkok. Bangkok is a must-visit destination as it is the hub for many international flights so it was simultaneously my starting point. But along with this, I wanted to visit two additional cities and was considering Phuket or Krabi, or perhaps Chang Mai and Krabi, or even Pattaya and Krabi.
As I was shortlisting my choices, something unique and intriguing caught my eye on Instagram post which showcased the unique and beautiful airport of Koh Samui. Whether you believe it or not, that post alone was the reason for me to go to Koh Samui along with Krabi. Just because of this unique and beautiful airport, I decided to visit Koh Samui. If you are curious about how beautiful Koh Samui is and what you can see and enjoy there, feel free to read my previous blogs. But this blog is about the airport of Koh Samui, the very reason I chose to visit this beautiful island of Thailand.
Airport whose: First Impression That Lasts
Koh Samui Airport is far more unique than other airports, in fact, it is so unique that your vacation starts as soon as you hit the ground at Koh Samui Airport. Its not just an airport, but a tropical paradise that feels more like a luxury resort. The open-air design of the airport allows visitors to witness planes landing and taking off very closely against the backdrop of stunning natural beauty, creating an experience like no other.
Despite of its small size, this airport offers all the basic and essential facilities which you can expect at an airport, but with a twist of island charm. There’s a VIP lounge for those who are looking to relax and there are open air areas which are sight to behold. Just Imagine having you coffee in an open air cafe while watching planes fly in and out, all in between lush green and vibrant flowers. There are also areas for children ensuring that everyone can enjoy at this unique airport.
The airport is small but it has plenty of dining options, from desi to local and from continental to fast food options. Additionally, the duty-free shops, while limited in number, are more than enough to meet your travel needs.
And if you are flying with Bangkok Airways, there is a special area where passengers of even economy class can enjoy complimentary snacks, coffee, and juices, which is a nice touch that enhances your overall experience. Then even the seating areas of Koh Samui airport are unique, they are designed in a way that resembles that you are at a beach resort but not at an airport.
Flight Options to and from Koh Samui
To reach Koh Samui, I took a flight from Bangkok, which is also the most common route for travelers. Koh Samui Airport mostly serves domestic flights, but there are some international connections as well. Direct flights are operated from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong, which makes it convenient for international travelers to reach this beautiful island.
After my stay in Koh Samui, I continued my journey to Krabi, So whether you are arriving from within Thailand or from abroad, this beautiful airport offers variety of options to suit your travel plans.
So, I must say Koh Samui airport is more that just a gateway to a beautiful island, its an experience in itself. This airport is one of the many reasons to add Koh Samui to your travel itinerary. Whether you are a travel or aviation enthusiast or simply looking for a unique travel experience, this airport will surely leave a lasting impression.
