As one of the most visited travel destinations of Asia, Kuala Lumpur attracts millions of tourists annually. This diverse city offers something to everyone, from high-rise buildings and beautiful parks to cultural heritage and colorful markets. As in 2019, just before COVID-19, it welcomed 13 million tourists in a year, which makes it a top tourist destination in the world. If you are planning your trip to this beautiful city, then here is a 3-day itinerary that is carefully created help you make the most of your stay.
But before that, let me tell you about the best place to stay in Kuala Lumpur. Actually, there are many good areas to stay in Kuala Lumpur, but Bukit Bintang is the best option because this spot is a tourist hotspot, offering easy access to almost all major attractions, and this place is known for its lively atmosphere and nightlife, shopping, and dining option, I also stayed here, so I highly recommend it. Now let’s start with our 3-day itinerary.
Day 1: Explore famous landmarks and Bukit Bintang
Start your day one with a visit to KL Tower, also known as Menara Kuala Lumpur, one of the most recognized landmarks in the city. With a height of 421 meters, the KL tower is the seventh tallest freestanding tower in the world. From this tower,, you can get stunning 360-degree views of the city skyline. You can take an elevator to the observation deck, which is 276 meters above the ground. The entrance fee is 49 Ringgit for adults, with another option of higher access, which includes Sky Box and Sky Deck.
Just a short walk from the KL Tower, you will find the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, also known as KL Forest Eco Park. This hidden gem is the oldest forest reserve in Malaysia, and this place is the perfect place as a escape from the hustle of the city. Stroll through the park’s nature trails and walk on the Canopy Walk, which is a suspension bridge that offers a beautiful view of the forest. The entry ticket is 40 RM.
Once you explore both of these places, head back to the Bukit Bintang area, as it will be daytime so it’s better to take refuge in one of the many luxury malls in the area. Popular malls including Pavilion KL, and LOT 10, each offer high-end and local brands, and here you can take your lunch as well.
In the evening, head towards Jalan Alor, a vibrant and bustling street famous for its street food. You will find every kind of cuisine here from local to international options. This street is a food lover’s paradise, plus the ambiance of the street is really amazing.
Day 2: Day Trip to Batu Caves & Genting Highlands
On your second day, you can go to a day trip to the Genting Highlands and the iconic Batu caves, I booked this trip online for just 125 RM, which is quite a cheap price.
First, they stop at the Batu Caves, one of Malaysia’s most sacred and famous Hindu Temples. The caves are set in limestone hills and feature a giant golden statue of Lord Murugan at the entrance. There you can climb 272 colorful steps that lead up to the cave temples. Once you reach inside, you’ll be amazed by the large cave formations and Hindu shrines. Entry to this place is free, but donations are of course welcome. Please don’t get free with the monkeys here, as you will find them here in abundance, and if you try to get close to them, they can snatch your belongings as well.
From Batu Caves, you will go to Genting Highlands, a resort destination situated in the Titiwangsa Mountains, this place is about an hour’s drive from the city. This place is really worth seeing, which offers plenty of options of entertainment, from casinos to shopping outlets to indoor theme park and cultural attractions. There you can take the Genting Skyway, one of the longest and fastest cable cars in Southeast Asia, to get to the top. The atmosphere and the views here are spectacular. On the way to the top, there is a Chinese temple as well, which is definitely a worthwhile place to stop.
After returning to the city in the evening, relax, or if you have the energy you can explore the streets of Bukit Bintang to experience and enjoy the nightlife of Kuala Lumpur.
Day 3: Petronas Twin Towers & Cultural Markets
On the third and final day, I started my day by visiting the Petronas Twin Towers, the world’s tallest twin towers, standing at 452 meters. These are not just towers but the symbol of Malaysia’s growth and modernity. Here you can take pictures in front of the towers and can do walk in KLCC Park, which is located just beneath the towers. This park provides a peaceful escape with its walking paths, fountains, and playgrounds. The towers has also Surai KLCC Mall, which is massive shopping complex where you can do shopping and the mall has lot of cuisine options.
In the afternoon, take a taxi and head towards Chinatown, one of Kuala Lumpur’s most vibrant and lively areas. Petaling Street is the heart of Chinatown,, where you can buy souvenirs and Malaysian-made, street food. After exploring this place take a 10-minute walk to Central Market, another cultural hub famous for its handicrafts, artworks, and locally made products. This place is a perfect spot to buy Malaysian-made products. You can easily spend 1 to 2 hours here.
As the day winds down, return to the Twin Towers at night, the place looks entirely different in the night. Here now you can enjoy the Lake Symphony Fountain show, which takes place every night at 7:30 PM, 8:30 PM, and 9:30 PM at KLCC Park. This fountain show under the beautiful Twin Towers is a sight to behold.
