Whether you are looking for adventure, relaxation, or a taste of local culture, this city has everything for everyone. Here’s a guide to the top 5 must-do activities in Koh Samui, based on my personal experience, to help you make the most of your visit.
1. Explore the Beautiful Beaches
Koh Samui is the home of some beautiful beaches with all of which have their own charm:
Chaweng Beach: Chaweng beach is the most famous and busiest beach on the island, this beach is known for its lively atmosphere, soft white sand, and clear blue waters. An ideal place for sunbathing, swimming and water sports activities. The area also has plenty of beautiful bars, beachfront hotels, and restaurants.
Lamai Beach: Slightly quieter than Chaweng, this beach offers more calm atmosphere but there are still plenty of activities to do here. The beach is perfect for picture-perfect surroundings and perfect for swimming. There is also a Lamai night market where you can enjoy nightlife and enjoy local cuisines.
Lipa Noi Beach: This beach is known for its tranquil and more family friendly environment. The beach offers shallow waters and soft sand, making it perfect for families and children. The beach offers stunning sunset views and is a great spot for peaceful retreat.
2. Enjoy the Nightlife in Chaweng
Chaweng is the hub of nightlife in Koh Samui, the area is packed with bars, clubs, restaurants and beachside venues where you can enjoy the nightlife along the long stretch beach. The clubs and restaurants along the beach offers beautiful and lively atmosphere with music, live fire shows, dancing and beachfront dining, all of which make it perfect place to enjoy nightlife.
3. Visit Central Samui
Central Samui, located in the Chaweng area, is one of my favorite places in Koh Samui, especially to spend a night. This bustling and vibrant area is famous for its nightlife, which has a variety of restaurants, shops, and entertainment options. You will find both local and international cuisines here, and find plenty of stalls to buy souvenirs from. And for those who are craving for local street food, there is local street food just on the other side of Central Samui, where you can enjoy cheap local but delicious food and snacks.
4. Take a Day Trip
No visit is complete without having a day trip in Koh Samui. There are plenty of options for the day trips here but the following are the most famous ones.
Ang Thong Marine National Park: This stunning national park consists of 42 small islands and offers breathtaking scenery, snorkeling, kayaking and hiking opportunities. A day trip to Ang Thong typically costs 40 USD, including pick-up and drop off from your hotel, and lunch. The parks spectacular beauty and diverse activities make it a must visit place, I also take this trip in Koh Samui.
Koh Tao & Koh Nang Yaun: known for crystal clear waters and vibrant marine life, trip to these islands is best for those who love snorkeling and diving activities. A trip to these islands offers a fantastic opportunity to explore the underwater world and relax on pristine beaches.
5. Rent A Motorbike
To fully explore this beautiful island, renting a bike is must. A 125 CC bike costs around 200 Baht for a day, and petrol is priced at 40 Baht per liter. Renting a bike on the island is not only economical but also allows you to visit all the major attractions at your own pace. I personally enjoyed a lot riding bike on the island, as this give me the opportunity to explore the scenic routes as this give me the freedom to discover the hidden gems of the island’s natural beauty.
